Delhi Capitals’ Kyle Jamieson punished by BCCI for giving send-off to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday.

A 31-year-old sending off a 15-year-old hasn’t sat well with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Delhi Capitals’ (DC) fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has received a warning and also one demerit point after he ‘excessively celebrated’ in front of Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Jamieson owned up to the breach and took the penalty handed down by Match Referee Rajeev Seth.

Jamieson punished for celebrating Sooryavanshi’s wicket

RR hosted Delhi in Jaipur on Friday night. The game was billed to see Sooryavanshi go up against Michell Starc for the first time. However, Kyle Jamieson ended all the hype in the second over itself, taking the star youngster’s wicket.

Sooryavanshi announced himself on the first ball. Jamieson overpitched in the slot and the 15-year-old stood tall, presenting the full face to drill it past long off for four. No fielder moved. Then, Jamieson responded immediately with smarts. He switched to a low dipping full toss, changing the length and trajectory. Sooryavanshi hung back looking to dig it out, but the ball dipped late, squeezed under the bat, and took a faint under edge.

It ricocheted off the back pad and trickled into the stumps. Classic T20 theatre in two balls. The teenager punished a half volley, then got undone by a clever change-up. However, Jamieson then celebrated the wicket right in front of Sooryavanshi, who did well not to respond anything at that moment. Jamieson’s delight came from the fact that DC got rid of the most dangerous batter of IPL 2026 in just two balls. However, the BCCI didn’t like it.

Jamieson was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player in the match,” the BCCI stated in the release.

The incident occurred in the second over of the first innings, when, after dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Jamieson was found to be close to him in an aggressive manner, which could have provoked an aggressive reaction from the batter,” it added.
