The Art Island of Japan


Naoshima is located in the Seto Islands of Japan and is known for its outdoor art. Yayoi Kusama‘s restored yellow pumpkin is back at it’s famous spot, after being swept away last August of by a typhoon.
The Setouchi Triennale was held from April 14th until November 6th highlighting the beautiful seasons of Japan and forging lasting connections with communities and unique initiatives, who contribute to the restoration of the sea. Yayoi Kusama’s yellow pumpkin hast been damaged by a typhoon last August and was in restoration, but just on time when the Japanese Government lifted all restrictions regarding Covid-19 and allowed tourists back in Japan, the yellow pumpkin is back at it’s famous spot.

Naoshima, meaning ‘Honest Island’ in Japanese, is a a treasure for art lovers. Spread across the island are art installations and museums, build by architects, such as Tadao Ando that blend harmoniously into the landscape. Surrounded by the sea, there is a warm breeze and energy throughout the year and every year, not only Japanase of all ages, but around the world visit Naoshima.
