West Indies created a world record on Tuesday in Mirpur against Bangladesh. Aiming to restore parity, West Indies bowled all 50 overs of spin in the BAN vs WI 2nd ODI in Mirpur. The strategy paid off as the hosts stuttered to 213/7 batting first on a sluggish wicket.
West Indies create history with 50 overs of spin
West Indies turned to their tweakers in chase of a series leveller on Tuesday. On a reused slow wicket in Dhaka, the Men in Maroon stuck to their spin heavy attack with conviction. Justin Greaves was the only pace bowling option in the XI, but he did not bowling a single over.
Instead, captain Shai Hope turned to part timer Alick Athanaze to get the job done. The left hander delivered in style, finishing with incredible figures of 2/14 in 10 overs. Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein, Roston Chase and Khary Pierre also completed their spells to restrict Bangladesh to 213/7.
It marks the first time a team bowled 50 overs of spin in an ODI. The highest overs of spin bowled in the format was held by Sri Lanka when they sent down 44 overs of spin on three different occasions.
